چکیده

Natural and artificial barrier systems are the key elements of a final repository site for hazardous waste in geological formations. The concept is to isolate the waste from the biosphere over a long period of time. During that period, groundwater is prohibited to access the waste since contaminated water may endanger people and environment. Hence, permanent monitoring is important to avoid risks and prevent severe damages. Here a model is presented, which is developed for the analysis of flow in barrier system.

Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis for two-phase flow in the vicinity of the repository in the 1996 performance assessment for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant: disturbed conditions

Uncertainty and sensitivity analysis results obtained in the 1996 performance assessment (PA) for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) are presented for two-phase flow in the vicinity of the repository under disturbed conditions resulting from drilling intrusions. Techniques based on Latin hypercube sampling, examination of scatterplots, stepwise regression analysis, partial correlation analy...

Simulation of Two-phase Carbon-14 Transport at Yucca Mountain, Nevada

In support of Pacific Northwest Laboratory's (PNL) preliminary total system performance assessment of the proposed high-level nuclear-waste repository at Yucca Mountain, transport of carbon-14 (Cl4) in the unsaturated zone was numerically modeled with the Multiphase Subsurface Transport Simulator (MSTS). Total system performance assessments are being conducted to estimate potential cumulative r...

Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Disposal Room Model

This paper describes development of the conceptual and mathematical models for the part of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) repository performance assessment that is concerned with what happens to the waste over long times after the repository is decommissioned. These models, collectively referred to as the "The Disposal Room Model," describe the repository closure process during which de...

A Prototype Performance Assessment Model for Generic Deep Borehole Repository for High - Level Nuclear Waste – 12132 Joon

A deep borehole repository is one of the four geologic disposal system options currently under study by the U.S. DOE to support the development of a long-term strategy for geologic disposal of commercial used nuclear fuel (UNF) and high-level radioactive waste (HLW). The immediate goal of the generic deep borehole repository study is to develop the necessary modeling tools to evaluate and impro...
